Tickled Fig runs inclusive cookery lessons for young people with learning and communication difficulties. Our inclusive cookery lessons increase self-esteem, develop social skills, increase confidence to try new things, increase personal resilience and flexibility, and offer a fun learning experience with no glass ceiling.
During our healthy cookery lessons clients learn new techniques, experiment with new or unfamiliar ingredients, gain an appreciation of food provenance and seasonality, understand the importance of nutritional balance and portion control, learn safe and hygienic methods of cooking, and build healthy eating routines.
We use the spirit of the Mediterranean diet to engage clients with healthy portions, a wide range of seasonal ingredients, and ways of cooking efficiently and affordably. We take an inclusive approach incorporating Makaton signing and symbols. Our classes are a practical, multi-sensory experience and offer something new in every session. Our clients have a range of care and support needs; many have Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and most have communication difficulties. We offer private and group tuition depending on the needs of the client, and our experienced staff offer a service that can be pitched at beginner, intermediate and advanced level.
